1. What setting do I use for proper cutting on a Silhouette Cameo 3?

Silhouette Cameo 3 uses an auto-blade feature This tool eliminates the need to manually adjust the blade depth.
T-VINYL works great on the Silhouette Cameo 1, 2, & 3.
Keep in mind that an old /well used blade may require higher cut settings than a brand-new blade.
We always recommend a test cut. Silhouette has a feature which cuts a triangle on your vinyl. This will let you know if the settings are correct or if they need adjusting. This reduces your risks of wasting vinyl. After the test cut, weed the triangle. If the material does release easily or it tears, then the cut settings were too low. Increase the thickness until you can weed the triangle easily.
The nice thing about the Cameo is the auto-blade usually work great!

2. Which side is the liner? There is a super shiny side and a matte side.

The clear plastic side is the carrier sheet and it should always be face down when cutting (facing your machine).

3. How long should I heat press vinyl?

Cut in reverse.
Remove excess material.
Preheat garment for 2-3 seconds.
Apply design at 302°F/150°C.
Use medium pressure for 10-15 seconds.
Peel the clear polyester carrier cold or hot
Cover and reheat for 2-3 seconds.
Wait 24 hours before first wash.

4. Would this vinyl work on plastic? Maybe if I use with a heat gun or hair dryer on hot? Or is it for fabric only?

HTV works best on cotton or polyester or cotton/poly blends. Other synthetic fabrics, like acrylic, won’t work correctly because they will melt under the heat of an iron. For more advanced crafters, you can apply HTV to mugs, baseball hats, footballs and even wood!

5. which side should face up while cutting?

The clear plastic side is the carrier sheet and it should always be face down when cutting (facing your machine).

6. Compatible with Cricut?

Yes, it’s 100% compatible with Cricut and other cutting machines such as Silhouette, Roland, Graphtec etc.

7. Is it okay to use on rayon?

Rayon is a sensitive fabric, so it can’t handle high heat. Use a low heat setting when ironing your garment. The wool setting is usually a good option for rayon fabric. Iron in small portions.

8. Can I layer on top of htv vinyl?

Some HTV Vinyl can only be used as the top layer. You’ll want to avoid layering on top of Glitter HTV, Foil, Sparkle, Shimmer, Flock, and Shine etc. Anything that has a smooth finish like our Soft PU, Metallic Foil etc. These smooth finish HTV Vinyl can be used on either the top or bottom layer.

9. Can I iron one piece of vinyl on top of another piece of vinyl?

Something to keep in mind during this step is that not all vinyl is made to be layered. Some htv can only be used as the top layer. You’ll want to avoid layering on top of Glitter HTV, Foil, Sparkle, Shimmer, Flock, and Shine. These smooth finish htv can be used on either the top or bottom layer

10. Can I apply this with a regular household iron?

Each product has slightly different specifications of how to apply including material type, temperature and pressure. Obviously the better quality iron, the better results you will receive, but generally any household iron should work. To apply HTV with an iron you should follow those same guidelines but you should also:

-Use a Teflon sheet, thin pillow case or parchment paper (not wax paper!) on top of the design
– Set the iron on high/cotton
– Turn off steam
– Press on a solid surface such as a table or counter Do not “iron” it by moving the iron around. Press firmly for the correct time/temperature then move the iron and press the next section, if the design is large. If you move the iron around like you are ironing the garment, you are heating and cooling the garment and HTV rather than pressing it onto the garment.
– You should iron the garment first to warm the material and remove any moisture that may exist.
– Some people have suggested placing a sheet of aluminum foil inside the garment to reflect heat, although I’m not sure if that’s really effective or not, it certainly should not hurt anything.

11.Do I need a transfer paper to stick this vinyl it on shirt?

No, transfer paper is not needed. It has a shiny carrier side film that can replace the transper paper. Just make sure that you cut on the correct side!
